What it is.

The Lick is a web app for building practice exercises for jazz musicians. Pick a scale, choose a pattern, set a key and direction, and the app lays it out as readable notation.

It takes inspiration from mid-century method books and Swiss typography, but the product itself is modern: fast to adjust, easy to export, and built for everyday practice rather than static book pages.

Under the hood.

Notation is engraved with Verovio from generated MusicXML. The current focus is producing clean PDF and MusicXML output from a small, clear set of inputs.
